Abstract

Mice intoxicated with botulinus were administered combination of antitoxic serum and various substances, and the effect were observed. Substances that had already been proved to increase significantly the lifespan of intoxicated mice have been put to test, as well as some other substances which are known to be capable of re-starting acetylcholine release that was blocked by botulinum toxin.

The combination of serum with these substances was administered at the beginning and in the later stage of intoxication.

It was shown that above mentioned substances, when combined, did not increase the percentage of survival move than each substance alone.

The discussion stressed the point that detoxication of botulism with antitoxic serum is not specific therapy because its effect is limited to the early stage of intoxication.

New ways of searching for efficient therapy of botulism were indicated in the discussion.
