Abstract

The authors emphasize the application of alfachymotrypsin in cataract surgery. The alfachymotrypsin was used in 155 cases and in 148 cases it was performed intracapsulare extraction and in 7 cases extracapsular extraction of the cataractous lens. The postoperatives results in the sense of complications they are following;

In 4 cases it was obserwed prolapsus of the vitreous, in 13 cases Tyndal was positive, in 9 cases oedema of the conjunctivale flap with retarding of healing of the conjunctival wound and in one case keratitis. The alfachymotrypsin was used by patients with senile cataract but only in the age until 60 years and by patients over 20. years with juvenile cataract, which was not complicated. The surgery of the cataract obtained with alfachymotrypsin, good one zonulolytic enzyme and with these enzymes it is easier to perform intracapsular extraction of the cataractous lens. But on the other site the postoperative complication is in the sense of healing of conjunctival wound by application of alfachymotrypsin in some cases was more accentuated with retard than in cases, which was operated without alfachymotrypsin.
