Immunologic Studies in a Case of Goodpasture’s Syndrome

The immunologic studies in a case of Goodpasture’s syndrome are presented in this paper. The anti-glomerular basement membrane (GBM) antibodies are visualized by the method of direct immunofluorescence as linear deposits along the GBM. The circulating anti-GBM antibodies were investigated using the indirect immunofluorescence and original method of passive hemagglutination. The passive hemagglutination method is very sensitive for the detection of low concentration of circulating anti-GBM antibodies. Anti-GBM antibodies are also eluted from the diseased kidneys, immunochemically characterised, and their specificity for GBM demonstrated.
