Influence of Lysozymes Upon the Antigenic Reactivity of Treponema Pallidum in the Fluorescent Antibody Test (FTA)

Comparative investigations have been carried out in respect of the antigenic reactivity of T. pallidum in FTAs and FTA-ABS test under influence of lysozyme.
The analysis was performed on 30 sera which were TPI, FTA200 and STS negative.
It could be demonstrated by this investigation, that suspensions of Treponemes treated with lysozyme in the FTAs and FTA-ABS test acquire the ability to bind the group specific antibodies and to produce more biologic false positive results than suspensions without addition of lysozyme.
It could be further shown that the effect of lysozyme on the antigenic reactivity of Treponemes depends also on the age of the respective Treponeme suspension. In fresh suspensions the effect of lysozyme is more intensive than in the older one.
