Quantitative Amylase Test in Organs and Blood of Swine Infected With Swine Fever Virus

The determination of the amylase activity was carried out with the quantitative colorimetric method in extracts of pancreas, parotis, intestinal mucosa, liver, spleen, muscle, blood and urine of swine infected with swine fever virus. Animals was sacrificed 5—6 days following infection. In all exanimated organs as in the blood and urine was established a remarkable decrease of the amylase activity with the most significant manifestation in pancreas-corpus, intestinal mucosa and liver.
The amylase activity in pancreas-corpus, intestinal mucosa and liver of infected animals decreased for 87°/o, 90% and 87% respectively and it was considerable below the lowest individual values of infected animals. Authors indicate on the presumption that the cause of such a condition would be necessary to demand rather in the activity of the virus on one centre in CNS than in direct injury of the respective organs.
