Study of C. F. Antibodies Against R. Prowazeki in the Population of Bosnia and Herzegovina

In Bosnia and Herzegovina 1041 human sera taken in different villages was used to determine prevalence-rate of C. F. antibodies against R. prowazeki, according age, sex and ethnic groups.
It was found that 11,56% males and 17,11% females have C. F. antibodies with titters 1:8 and more.
In a similar study performed in 1954 higher C. F. prevalence rate was found in moslem population. In this study wasn't proved any statistical difference between moslem and non-moslem population.
In children up to 10 years of age 2,51% was found with C. F. antibodies although the health Service didn’t record in the same villages any cases of typhus fever.
In Bosnia still occurs very rarely primary classical typhus among small children and much more often cases of recrudescent typhus fever.
In regard to a low rate of infestation of rural population in Bosnia with body lice and very low fresh human infections with R. provvazeki the author emphasizes that is now the most favourable moment for republican program for the final eradication of lousiness and classical typhus fever.
