Abstract

The passage of histamine and glucose have been investigated quantitatively across the ileal wall of guinea — pig under the influence of ethanol in vitro using a simple apparatus. The amount of histamine passing the intestinal wall have been estimated simultaneously and instantly by a biological method using ileum of guinea-pig. The amount of glucose passing the intestinal wall was estimated by a micro — colorimetric method. It has been found that ethanol increases the passage of histamine and glucose across the ileal wall to 12,71% and 24,20% respectively.

Ethanol caused direct and indirect effect on the smooth muscle organs in situ. Direct effects were spasm or relaxation of muscle. Indirect effect of ethanol was induced by the change of resorption of different active substances from intestine.
