Problem gastrointestinalnih ulcera ne samo da je jedan od najvažnijih problema savremene gastroenterologije nego je taj problem za vrijeme prošlog svjetskog rata kao i u ova naša poratna vremena postao jedan od najaktuelnijih medicinskih problema uopšte, a po svojoj složenosti i rasprostranjenosti dobio je sva obilježja jedne veoma značajne socijalne bolesti.
