Mario Pallua was born in 1986 in Zagreb, Croatia, into a trilingual Croatian-English-Italian family. He completed his secondary education in Zagreb (5th and 15th Gymnasiums) and at William Ellis School in London, UK. In 2009 he earned a BA from the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Zagreb, followed in 2010 by an MPhil in Development Studies at the University of Cambridge, UK, for which he was awarded a full OSI-FCO Chevening Scholarship.

Pallua specializes in academic publishing, with a particular focus on scholarly journals. From 2013 to 2017, he served primarily as an Editorial Assistant at the Institute for Development and International Relations (Zagreb, Croatia), but also contributed to other projects conducted at the Institute. In 2022 and 2023 he worked at Libertas International University (Zagreb, Croatia) as a Coordinator in the Office for Research and Publishing, collaborating with Editors-in-Chief and overseeing the University's three scholarly journals. In 2023, he completed a one-year scholarly publishing Fellowship with the US-based Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP).

Pallua has also undertaken various freelance projects. He worked as an XML JATS programmer for the Croatian Sociological Association (2021-2022) and as a journalist in English for Regionalni informacijski servisi (2021), whose clients are foreign embassies and corporations in Croatia. From 2023 to 2024, he served as the Manager for Lectures for Davor Rostuhar, a prominent Croatian adventurer and traveller.

In 2025, Pallua founded Svijet spoznaja (World of Insights), a private company dedicated to supporting the scholarly publishing community, with a primary focus on scholarly journals.
