Janet Tuškan was born in London and studied English and German at Southampton University.

Having worked as a teacher of English and German she came to Zagreb in 1984 as a student. She met her husband there and got married in 1988 and they now have four children. For several years she taught English at a language school in Zagreb but for the past 15 years has been working as a freelance translator and language editor, translating a wide variety of texts from Croatian into English, and working as language editor for various medical journals in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
