Professor Damir Sapunar is a full professor at University of Split School of Medicine.

He obtained his MD (1989) and PhD (1996) title at University of Zagreb Medical School and since then he has been working at the Department of Anatomy, Histology and Embryology at University of Split School of Medicine. He was Honorary Visiting Fellow at the University of Leicester, School of Medicine and he did his postdoctoral training at Medical College of Wisconsin, WI, USA. He was vice‐dean for education, president of Managing Council, National and University Library Zagreb and executive editor of online edition of Croatian Medical Journal.

He is director of the Translational Research in Biomedicine doctoral program, the only program among Croatian medical schools with awarded high quality seal. His research interests are chronic pain, more specifically, peripheral mechanisms of neuropathic pain and dorsal root ganglion neurostimulation techniques.

He was principal investigator in numerous Croatian and foreign grants.

He published more than 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts and mentored numerous young researchers.
